Operation Overlord: Gold, Juno and Sword Beach
The 6th June, 1944, known as “D-Day,” marked the beginning of Operation Overlord, the largest amphibious operation in history. The objective: to liberate Western Europe from Nazi occupation.
Of the five beaches designated for the assault — Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword — three were entrusted primarily to British and Canadian forces: Gold , Juno and Sword.
